Kitchen Trends for 2019
1. Terrazzo surfaces fall into the category of “everything old is new again”. All the rage in the 70’s, traditional terrazzo provided a stone look which incorporated glass and marble shards for sparkle and shine.
Today’s porcelain terrazzo is gorgeous, and can be used on floors, backsplashes, or countertops for a truly unique look.
2. Appliances are moving forward technologically as fast as our TV’s and phones. From ranges which offer sous vide cooking, to a refrigerator which can dictate our recipes to us step-by-step, our kitchens are as sophisticated as any other rooms in our homes.
3. Metal fixtures add warmth and glamour to the most contemporary of kitchens, and are a design step above plastic. But these aren’t your mother’s chrome or brass faucets.
From matte black nickel to rose gold, the options are diversely beautiful.
Additionally, like much of the most popular contemporary design, mix-and-match is not only okay, it is encouraged.
4. The introduction of the kitchen island transformed the way we prepare food, and added the counter space we were looking for.
The latest islands, however, can incorporate food preparation innovations our grandmothers only dreamed of. Sink systems, which feature multi level, draining sink compartments and cutting boards, allow the chef to multi-task in one location; while hidden induction cooking is revolutionizing dinner preparation.
5. Handle-less cabinets take their cues from automotive technology – with the bump of a hip, or the touch of your foot, the cabinet door will swing open. Whether carrying too many grocery bags, or if your hands are covered in cookie dough – you can open doors without the need to free your hands.
6. Although we are far from a minimalist society, kitchen trends are leaning towards less clutter on our tabletops and surfaces – and this goes for kitchen countertops as well.
In 2019, homeowners are looking for ways to maximize the storage space we have, and to add creative storage solutions such as storage walls, butler’s pantries, and backsplash shelves.
