Longboat Key: Sarasota’s northernmost barrier island is known as a peaceful, upscale enclave with plenty of opportunity to live on the waterfront. As many homes on deep water canals are 40-50 years old at this point, many choose to tear down the existing property and build a new home. Longboat Key offers beautiful beaches, the upscale Longboat Key Club for golf, tennis and boating, and a tropical, manicured setting.
Southside / Hillview: This neighborhood may be one of the hottest in Sarasota right now. Located just south of downtown, the neighborhood is rapidly changing from small, older homes to gorgeous new custom builds. Located within walking distance to shops and restaurants and a stone’s throw from Main Street, Selby Gardens, and Island Park, the area has shady tree lined streets and Sarasota Bay views. Top rated Southside Elementary school is also in this area.
Bird Key: Having one of the most prestigious locations in Sarasota, Bird Key sits between Sarasota’s vibrant downtown and world-famous St. Armand’s Circle. The Key consists of 257 residences, many of which are located on deep water. Bird Key is completely residential with the exception of the yacht club, historically owned by the storied Ringling family.
It can sometimes be difficult to find available vacant lots in these and other popular areas. If you are looking to build a Sarasota custom home and a vacant lot is not available, you can either find an older home for sale on an attractive lot, or contact a local home builder to see if they have available lots in their inventory.
