HGTV.com recently published a list of new home must-haves, which was gleaned from their experience with their successful show House Hunters.
It seems when people are looking or their dream home, they tend to all dream about the same things. If you are looking to build your next home, perhaps this list will help you to clarify what you must have!
New Home Features Everyone Loves
The Must-Have Rooms: It should come as no surprise that the most important rooms in the house to new homeowners remain the kitchen and the bathrooms – although they do have other things on the list! To be more specific, house hunters are looking for:
1. A gourmet chef’s kitchen, complete with island and double oven. Although many homeowners may not be chefs, we love the idea of becoming one, and the kitchen is one of the most influential rooms in the house when it comes to home buying.
2. Speaking of kitchens, we also hope that this important room will include an eat-in area or nook for the family. Formal dining rooms are great for holidays, but not so much for every day.
3.House hunters also want luxurious full bathrooms – lots of them. Give us double vanities, rainwater showerheads, and a bathroom for every member of the family. In fact, his-and-hers master baths sound amazing.
4. A guest room is an absolute must-have when living in Longboat Key or Sarasota, as guests are guaranteed. A sanctuary with their own space, bathroom, closet, and wi-fi access is a huge selling point.
5. Walk-in closets are considered a huge selling point in new homes. Do we even have to explain why?
6. This may surprise you, but a man-cave ranks high on the list for HGTV home buyers. Whether a place for his pool table, a high-tech movie theater, or a technology haven to play video games, they want their own space.
7. A home office rounds out the list of the most-desired rooms in your new house.
The Neighborhood & Outdoor Spaces: Real estate is all about location, location, location, as well as what you do in that location. Here are the must-haves for home buyers when it comes to the great outdoors.
8. Everyone loves taking advantage of their outdoor space for grilling out on a beautiful spring or summer day. But most home buyers are now hoping for a complete outdoor kitchen, where they can prepare and cook a full meal, as well as entertain their guests.
9. One of the most sought after features when living in any coastal area is to be located close to a beach. Here in Sarasota and Longboat Key, that’s an easy dream to fulfill! In fact, our beaches are routinely selected as some of the most beautiful in the country.
10. Another must have which comes easily in Sarasota is urban flair, the next item on the must-have list. People are looking for walkable neighborhoods, local restaurants, and plenty of entertainment close by, as long as they can return home to a quiet place.
11. A room with a view? Every home owner wants at least one tranquil or beautiful view – hopefully from someplace they can relax and enjoy it!
12. Although number 10 on this list, our next must-have is probably one of the most important for some of our readers. Home buyers are looking for a big, open yard for their dogs or kids to run around, and of course, fenced in for safety reasons.
Features We Cant Live Without: Not to be left out, here are some of the features we definitely want in our new home:
13: Hardwood floors will sell the home much more quickly than wall-to-wall carpets, and although laminate may work, hardwood is a classic hard to pass up.
14. We love nods to the antique and the historic, but we are not looking for an old home. Building a new home with some charming nods to the past is all the rage.
15 & 16. Flowing, open space is the most desired of floorplans, and the more open the better. Florida homes are famous for big spaces with wide open views, so we definitely understand this desire of home owners. The main reason cited was so that they would have plenty of room for entertaining – either outside or in.
Number 17 is surprising – home owners are apparently looking for the right paint colors. It just goes to show how visually driven we are when looking for our new home.
